Adult DBT Skills Group

What is skills group?

DBT Skills Groups are a key component of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), aimed at increasing the tools at an individual’s disposal when navigating challenging situations, tolerating difficult emotions, and ultimately helping them build a life that feels worth living.

Group is designed to teach each of the skills from the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills modules of Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Emotion Regulation. Each group session will run for two hours and will be facilitated by Kate Roscher, LSWAIC (she/her). Each group will consist of mindfulness practice, a review of weekly homework, a brief break, learning a new skill from one of the DBT modules, and assigning homework for the next week.

This Group is not a process group or support group, meaning, the focus is on skill acquisition rather than processing experiences or gaining support from other group members. A DBT Skills Group functions more like a class than those groups typically do. While we work to create a group that is supportive and therapeutic, it is not a “therapy group” or “support group.”

Modules

  • Mindfulness

    Focuses on improving the ability to accept and be present in the current moment.

  • Emotion Regulation

    Covers strategies to understand, manage, and change intense emotions that are causing problems in a person's life.

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness

    Consists of techniques to communicate with others in a way that is assertive, maintains self-respect, and strengthens relationships.

  • Distress Tolerance

    Strives to increase tolerance of negative emotions rather than trying to escape from them with ineffective behaviors.

Logistics

Date & Time

Meeting every Monday from 5:30pm - 7:30pm PST. The next module begins on January 13, 2025. DBT Skills Group runs for 24 weeks and I require a commitment to attend for the entire 24 weeks of group.

Location

This is an online group that will meet via Zoom.

Cost

Free initial consultation - I offer this consultation to answer any of your questions and ensure the group is a good fit. $100 for a 60-minute pre-group intake. The cost of the group is broken down into three payment portions and is due at the beginning of a new DBT module. Group fees are not eligible for insurance reimbursement.

$640: includes 2 weeks of Mindfulness, 6 weeks of Distress Tolerance

$560: includes 2 weeks of Mindfulness, 5 weeks of Interpersonal Effectiveness 

$720: includes 2 weeks of Mindfulness, 7 weeks of Emotion Regulation
